Awesome Blogger Award!

Better late than never

I was nominated by the oh, so wonderful H.R. Phoenix from Penable for this award! Thank you Phoenix! It was so kind of you to think of me!

Before I jump into the award, I want to go over two stupid mistakes that I made recently so hopefully you wont make the same ones. First of all, I completely forgot to check my spam comments for a long while. My nomination for the award was in there, and I didn’t see it for nearly two weeks! Secondly, I am constantly confused by blog posts that have multiple pages. I don’t know why, but my eyes just skim right over the little button to click over to the next page. It’s not the fault of those blog posts; it just speaks to my inability to perceive those pages numbers at the “end” of the post. These two mistakes combined are the reasons why it has taken me so long to accept this award. Oh, well…Better late than never.

I was also nominated by the incredible Silver Stone from The Bored Side Of The Phone. Thank you Silver Stone!

Since I accepted this award so recently, I decided to update this post with Silver’s questions rather than making a new post.

Award Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Tag the post with #awesomebloggeraward.
  • Answer the questions you were asked.
  • Nominate at least five bloggers and inform them of their nomination.
  • Give them ten new questions to answer.

Phoenix’s Questions

Name three people who have inspired you on WordPress
Gabriela M. of short-prose-fiction who writes beautiful poetry and was one of the first people to comment on my blog
Erik Shinker of Perpetually Past Due because I absolutely adore his poetry
Mark Miles of Mark All My Words who runs a hiking/nature/photography blog that teaches me so much
(Also H.R. Phoenix of Penable, of course, for her encouraging comments, but it felt like a cop-out to include my nominator in this list)

Winter or summer and why
Definitely summer. I do not like the cold, and I especially hate scraping ice and snow off of cars and driveways.

What is your favourite piece of poetry and why
Currently, I’ve been loving “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” by Dylan Thomas. (Maria Popova from Brain Pickings has a really post about Thomas’s life and this poem, which includes a video of Thomas reading the poem himself. You can find that post here.) I don’t know why this poem has been on my mind so much lately. I must have read it in high school, and it randomly popped into my head a few weeks ago and hasn’t left since. I love the acknowledgement of the vulnerability of the human condition and the encouragement to face death with an abundance of strength. I also really love “This Is Just to Say” by William Carlos Williams. I even have a blog post touching on that poem.

Name three books you remember reading in your childhood
A Corner of the Universe by Ann M. Martin
The View from Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg
Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan

Tell me something you have cooked/ baked that you are proud of
I love cooking because I can really experiment with techniques and flavors! My roommate and I hosted a Friendsgiving last year, and I was in charge of making several of the dishes. I think the bread dressing turned out the best!

What was the funniest moment of your life?
This definitely wasn’t the funniest moment of my life (I find those really hard to explain to anyone who wasn’t there), but this event was certainly memorable. I was once texting and walking, and I strode into a knee-high hunk of concrete in my path. Startled, I immediately fell over. Don’t text and walk, kids. It makes me feel slightly better that I was walking with two friends, neither of whom noticed the giant block of concrete until it was too late, either.

Have you ever cried during a film, if so, which one?
I’ve cried during so many movies, so I’ll just provide a list of the ones that I can remember: Bridge to Terabithia, Up, Les Misérables, The Big Sick, Roma, and Short Term 12.

Give three things your friends would describe you as

Have you ever got late for school when you were younger and made up a ridiculous excuse? If so, what was it?
Nope, I was a good kid (at least in respect to timeliness).

Would you rather spend a night in a haunted house or by yourself in the woods??
Even though it would actually probably be more dangerous, I would rather spend the night by myself in the woods. In fact, I have considered taking up solo camping as a hobby. Plus, I don’t think I could sleep in a haunted house. My imagination is too active for that.

Silver Stone’s Questions

What would you take with you, if you happen to be stranded all alone on an island?(Any 5 items would be ok)
I would take my phone (maybe, just maybe it would work), a hatchet, a firestarter (not a lighter, but either a flint or magnesium firestarter because they are nearly infinitely reuseable), some rope, and a tarp. I’d have the possible problem of boredom, but I like to think that, with those items, I’d be able to survive on my own for a while.

Who’s the one celebrity you’d love to meet, and why?
Kristen Bell seems really nice and cool. She appears to be super down to earth, and she does so much activism and charity work that I would love to pick her brain about.

Are you an extrovert, introvert, or an ambivert?
I am 100% a shy extrovert. I definitely refresh my energy by being around other people, even though I feel anxious the entire time. I realized this half a year ago, and it made so many social experiences make so much more sense in hindsight.

What advice would you give your teenage self?
I would tell my teenage self to break more rules. I didn’t go through a wild teenager phase, and, though I think my overall personality precludes me from going too wild, I wish I had more experiences of testing the waters and facing the consequences.

You happen to find a hundred bucks in your jeans after you’ve washed it. What would you spend it on?
This might sound really uninteresting, but I have been eyeing these reusable food storage bags called Stasher Bags for a few months. They’re rather pricey, but a hundred dollars should be able to buy me a full set.

What is the best way to relax after a stressful day?
Watching YouTube, though that’s the way that I relax after any day.

Name your least favourite sport
to play: basketball
to watch: soccer (sorry, I know that answer can only be possible because I’m American)

Would you rather have a boring job, but get paid more; or have a fun job, but get paid less?
Fun job, but get paid less.

The dream concert you’d like to go to?(it could be in the past,as well! )
I’ve really been loving Young the Giant’s music recently (not because they put out anything new, but because I didn’t realize just how good they are), so I’d love to go to one of their concerts. Or Muse. Their concerts are supposed to be incredible!

As a kid, who was your favourite cartoon character?
As a young child, it was Blue from Blue’s Clues. Once I got a little older, I didn’t watch many cartoons, but if I had to pick, I’d say Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

If you are reading this, I nominate you!

I don’t want to be the blogger who always does this for nominations, but this award has been around for so long that I cannot think of five people I follow who accept awards who haven’t done this one already. If you haven’t done it yet, though, I would love to hear your answers to the following questions:

  1. Who is your favorite author?
  2. What is your favorite piece of art and why?
  3. What is your favorite post on your own blog?
  4. When is the last time you adopted a new favorite/updated a favorite (book, color, food, etc.)? What was it and why?
  5. Describe yourself using 3 pictures.
  6. What experiences have triggered delight for you in the past week?
  7. Who is your biggest writing inspiration?
  8. Do you prefer hot drinks or cold drinks?
  9. How do you show compassion toward yourself or toward others?
  10. Name a fellow blogger you think would make a great friend irl.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another poem. See you then!

Peace out!

    1. Thank you! And from that list The Big Sick and Short Term 12 are two of my favorite movies. Neither of them got nearly enough attention, so I highly recommend them for a good cry.
