A Free Verse Poem
If I were
the wind whipping through your hair
on late night drives with the windows down
after the rain just stopped,
leaving the road shiny and slick with wetness
and the smell of damp asphalt still permeating the air,
would you then believe
that I will always be with you?
And if I were
the blades of grass
poking through the concrete of your path
creating cracks in what once seemed indestructible,
my roots shooting deep into the earth beneath
and my greenery reaching up to the light,
would you then believe
that I am strong enough?
