Anxiety

What will tomorrow bring?

Beasts of tomorrow
generate more fear today
than their true teeth could.

Tomorrow

“Tomorrow,” I said,
“surely tomorrow.”

When the murder was perpetrated,
I decided to look into it tomorrow.
“Tomorrow,” I said,
“surely tomorrow.”
I went to sleep
and tomorrow never came.

When the evidence was released,
I decided to advocate tomorrow.
“Tomorrow,” I said,
“surely tomorrow.”
I went to sleep
and tomorrow never came.

When the protests occurred,
I decided to participate tomorrow.
“Tomorrow,” I said,
“surely tomorrow.”
I went to sleep
and tomorrow never came.

When the next atrocity was committed,
I decided to do something tomorrow.
“Tomorrow,” I said,
“surely tomorrow.”
I went to sleep
and tomorrow another atrocity was committed
and again the next day
and again the next day
and that’s when I took a stand.

Tomorrow, there will be more heartbreak,
more outrage,
more violence,
more love,
and more hope.
Today, there will be more action.
For tomorrow can surely wait,
but I cannot.
